Born, raised and educated in Edmonton, Gordon obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics, graduating with Distinction in 1977. In 1980 he graduated from the University of Alberta Law School in Edmonton.
After articling in Wetaskiwin, Gordon was admitted to the bar in 1981. He remained in private practice in Wetaskiwin until February of 1985, when he joined the Alberta Department of the Attorney General.
As a prosecutor in the judicial district of Wetaskiwin until 1994, Gordon gained valuable courtroom experience and prosecuted many major criminal cases throughout Central Alberta. Shortly before leaving the Prosecutors' Office, Gordon was officially designated as an expert in handling complex criminal cases by The Department of the Attorney General.
Gordon's practice is currently centered on Criminal and Civil Litigation.
Gordon has actively pursued extracurricular community activities. He has served as Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the Wetaskiwin Kiwanis Music Festival and has been a Director of the Wetaskiwin Kiwanis Club. He has also served as Vice-President and founding Director of the Wetaskiwin Icemen Junior Hockey Club; Vice-Chairman and Director of the Wetaskiwin Boys and Girls Club; Director of the Wetaskiwin Big Brothers and Big Sisters Club; Chairman of Wetaskiwin Family and Community Social Services; Vice-Chairman of the Horizons Centre for Mentally Disadvantaged Children; and local volunteer organizer of the Randy Gregg Golf Tour in support of Ronald McDonald House and Funteam Alberta. Gordon has also coached minor hockey and remains active as a player in the Canadian Oldtimers Hockey Association. Since 1996, Gordon has been Chairman of the Sutter Fund Charity Golf Classic, and has acted as Counsel for the Sutter Fund, a non-profit company incorporated by Brian, Brent, Connie, and Judy Sutter. With the help of many local businesses, the Sutter Fund has raised significant funds for distribution to youth groups and charitable agencies in Central Alberta.
Gordon and his wife, Annie, have three children.
