Executive Summary

Sander was born in the Netherlands and moved to Canada with his family when he was 11 years old. He attended high school and college in Red Deer. He then moved to Calgary, Alberta where he received two degrees from the University of Calgary. After that, he obtained his Law degree from the University of Victoria and articled with a prestigious law firm in down-town Victoria, British Columbia.

After being called to the British Columbia Bar, Sander relocated back to Calgary to train under the mentorship of a patent agent at a boutique intellectual property law firm in the downtown core. He was subsequently called to the Alberta Bar.

In addition to being a lawyer, Mr. Gelsing is also a registered Canadian patent and trade-mark agent, a registered U.S. patent agent and recognized to represent Canadian residents at the U.S.P.T.O. in trademark matters. He heads the firm’s intellectual property law practice working in the area of patents, trade-marks, copyrights, industrial designs, trade-secrets and other forms of intellectual property.

His practice is restricted to intellectual property law and civil litigation (IP litigation). He has represented clients in intellectual property litigation matters both at the Alberta Court of Queen’s Bench and at the Federal Court. He also has an active trade-mark opposition and summary expungement (Section 45) practice at the Trade-mark Opposition Board.

Sander provides legal advise regarding a wide range of intellectual property law issues, including: patent infringement and validity issues, patent searches and patent applications, trade-mark litigation, including trade-mark passing-off, trade-mark oppositions and section 45 expungement proceedings, copyright registration and infringement, intellectual property ownership rights, trade secrets and many other intellectual property law concerns.
