Sonia Montes Figueroa
Associate
Executive Summary
Sonia practices in the areas of civil litigation and immigration law. She earned her civil law degree in Honduras, where she practiced for three years before moving to Canada in 2019. After relocating to Alberta in 2024, she completed her articles with the Alberta Crown Prosecution Service in Red Deer and was called to the Alberta Bar in August 2025.
Before articling, Sonia pursued postgraduate studies as a Paralegal in Ontario and became a licensed paralegal in 2021. She gained experience as a legal intern in Toronto and later as a legal assistant with a Vancouver litigation firm. In 2021, she established and managed a non-profit organization through which she provided immigration services to international students, families, and businesses. Because of the unique circumstances newcomers face, her work also extended to providing legal information in areas such as employment, corporate, and administrative law.
Sonia is fluent in both English and Spanish and has been studying French for the past two years. She has extensive experience working with clients from diverse cultural and professional backgrounds.
Outside of practice, Sonia enjoys music, dance, and singing, and is deeply engaged in her community. She is the co-founder of the Central Alberta Latin American Inclusive Association and serves on the board of the Red Deer Arts Council. She is also a member of the Red Aces Dance Club and has been involved with the Red Deer Royals Adult Novice Band, though she is not currently active.
